Good and Bad Children - Хорошие и плохие дети

Children, you are very little,

And your bones are very brittle;

If you would grow great and stately,

You must try to walk sedately.

Вы, детишки, не шалите,

Свои ноги берегите.

Повзрослев, ведь непременно

Надо вам ходить степенно.

You must still be bright and quiet

And content with simple diet;

And remain, through all bewild’ring,

Innocent and honest children.

Что дают, вы есть должны,

Быть правдивы и честны,

И вести себя достойно,

Скромно, умно и спокойно.

Happy hearts and happy faces,

Happy play in grassy places –

That was how, in ancient ages,

Children grew to kings and sages.

По лесам-лугам гуляйте

И с улыбкой всех встречайте.

Кто держался этих правил,

Тот страною в прошлом правил.

But the unkind and the unruly,

And the sort who eat unduly,

They must never hope for glory –

Theirs is quite a different story!

Тот, кто лживый, тот, кто злой,

Кто неряшлив за едой,

Обречен на неуспех.

Очень жаль детишек тех!

Cruel children, crying babies,

All grow up as geese and gabies,

Hated, as their age increases,

By their nephews and their nieces.

Дети – плаксы или злючки

Вырастают, как колючки,

Вызывая, повзрослев,

У родни своей лишь гнев.
